Site search

Overview

Site search lets visitors find anything you have published, from pages and blog posts to events, on one results page. Administrators turn it on once; it searches only your own site’s published content.

Turn on site search

  1. Open the settings

In the sidebar, choose Settings & Integrations.

  2. Switch it on

Under Site search, switch on Show a search button in the site header, and choose Save.

What visitors see

A search button appears in the site header. It opens the Search page at /search on your site, where each result says whether it is a page, a post or an event, and links to it. The page works in every browser, and its address can be shared.

A site built with Pages: the logo and menu across the header, above a hero with a heading, an introduction and two buttons
A published site’s header, where the search button appears once site search is on. Shown with a fictional organisation.

Good to know

Drafts and unpublished pages never appear in results. The results page is kept out of search engines. Turning site search off removes the button; the rest of the header stays as it was.
